PREMENSTRUAL DISORDER
Premenstrual disorders are characterized by a wide variety of mood and somatic symptoms. Most women with ovulatory cycles have some symptoms during the late luteal phase of their cycle. For the most part, these symptoms are not severe enough to interfere with their lives; however, 20% to 40% of women of childbearing age can be considered part of a premenstrual syndrome (PMS) or (PDM).
Treating women with premenstrual symptoms represents a challenge for clinicians, as no two women have the same combination of mood and somatic symptoms. There are different therapeutic strategies for premenstrual disorders, from non-drug approaches, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and other types of treatments. In another article we will focus more on the available, effective and scientifically approved treatments.
